General Information

Kampot, located on the south coast, is the third coastal province in the Kingdom of Cambodia. The Royal Government of Cambodia has been actively restoring and building coastal infrastructure to boost cooperation in the south-west economic corridor. The province of Kampot is located 148km to the south-west of Phnom Penh. It consists of the main Kampot town, 7 districts 93communes and 488 villages. It covers an area of 4,873km2 with a population estimated at 642,818 which effectively place the population of the provincial town itself is estimated at 35,097 only. These are made up of Cambodians. Ethnic Khmer Chams, Chinese and Vietnamese.

The Tourism Industry of Kampot has been enjoying a boom in recent years: it is recognized to be a fast growing sector of the economy with great potentials for further growth. However, the people in this province are mostly in farming, fishing or engaged in manual labor, although many business enterprises involving local and international business have been flourishing as well.

Rice, Pepper, cement, lime stone, phosphate, salt, sea produces, forestry and sub-forestry products and fruits are produced in the province of Kampot. Elevations vary between sea level and around 1,100 meters at the eastern extremeities of the Cardamon Range. Temprarute levels are between 19.0C and 36.9C.
